Emma Watson and Other British Actors Sign an Open Letter to Their “Sisters”

The supporters of the Time’s Up movement are taking another step forward during awards season. Apart from encouraging attendees to wear black, more than 100 British actors released an open letter addressed to their “sisters” before the British Academy Film Awards. The letter was signed by Emma Watson and Kate Winslet among others.

The open letter addressed “Dear Sisters” was written by actors including @EmmaWatson @NaomieHarris & Jodie Whitaker & addresses the gender pay gap for women in their 20s in the UK stating, “it is now five times greater than it was six years ago” #TimesUp #BAFTAs pic.twitter.com/jn2PzWo2yp

According to Nylon, the actors and actresses also encouraged donations to the Justice and Equality Fund, which is an anti-harassment campaign like the American Legal Defense Fund. Emma reportedly donated $1.4 million while other actors like Tom Hiddleston made donations as well.

The letter brought up the support the movement has gotten from other women. “In autumn of last year, when stories came out in the press about sexual harassment, discrimination, and abuse in the entertainment industry, 700,000 female farm workers wrote to us to say they stood with us in solidarity.”

The issue of the pay gap in the UK was also talked about in the letter. “Here in the UK, this movement is at a critical juncture. The Gender pay gap for women in their 20s is now five times greater than it was six years ago.”

Thank you, ladies for keeping our spirits up during these trying times.
