F-beauty is here to cater to darker Southeast Asian skin tones

Another contender has arrived to replace the K-beauty trend: F-beauty, aka Filipino beauty.

Last August, British Vogue reported that although K-beauty isn’t dying down soon, beauty lovers are already looking into J-beauty. But Huffington Post reminded everyone not to forget about Filipino brands.

If K-beauty and J-beauty focus on skincare, what makes F-beauty stand out? For Sunnies Face co-founder Martine Ho, it’s all about inclusivity. “We developed our colors specifically with our Southeast Asian warm skin tones in mind—color ranges that have been underrepresented in beauty for far too long,” she tells Huffington Post.

We all know many Asian brands only cater to lighter skin tones and F-beauty may become the outlier when it comes to answering the needs of Southeast Asians and other ethnicities with darker skin tones. It’s very similar to how Western beauty brands are being called on to make wide shade ranges when releasing foundation. At the same time, most F-beauty skincare are meant for sun protection, oil control, and moisturization for dry skin.

We have listed down several existing local beauty brands, but we’re giving you more as F-beauty rises to the top.

Vice Cosmetics Duo Finish Foundation

You can use this powder to set your liquid foundation and concealer. You also use a damp sponge with it for additional coverage. It comes in eight shades suitable for light to morena skin tones. It also has SPF 25 to protect your skin from the sun. Available at SM Makati.

Snoe Beauty The Cover Up Buildable Concealer

Snoe Beauty’s compact concealer comes in three shades: Vanilla Cream, Perfect Beige, and Warm Honey. It’s buildable, waterproof, and doesn’t cake up throughout the day. Available at The Landmark Makati.

SkinPotions Glam Pocket

Glam Pocket has a blush tint and highlighter placed in a ’90s-inspired packaging. Both products dry into a velvety powder finish and can be easily blended using your fingers. You can apply these to your cheeks, eyelids, and lips as well. Available SM Megamall.

Pink Sugar Creamy Matte Lipstick

There are 17 shades of Pink Sugar Creamy Matte Lipstick that are perfect for people who love simple and colorful looks. This also has a semi-matte finish and is formulated with shea butter for added hydration. Available online.

Skin Genie Charcoal Bubble Mask

Detoxify your skin after a long day with Skin Genie’s Charcoal Bubble Mask. It carbonates and bubbles up minutes after application which helps unclog dirt from pores and exfoliate the skin. It also gives your skin nutrients for a healthy glow. Available online.

Pili Dual Action Cleansing Oil

This cleansing oil doesn’t just emulsify makeup for easy removal, it also moisturizes the skin. It’s formulated with pili oil which has antioxidants and vitamin E that nourish the skin and protect it from cell damage. Available at Beauty Bar.

Sooper Beaute Aloe Vera Juice Serum

Living in a tropical country means we’ll experience sunny days almost every day. So it’s important to own skincare products that soothe irritated skin and sunburns. This beauty oil from Sooper Beaute has aloe vera and chamomile extract which boost hydration and help skin regenerate faster. Available online.
