18-year-old Filipino model Noah Carlos, who is more known on Instagram as @loserthrift, is one of the cover stars of i-D’s The Get Up Stand Up issue. Noah was referred to as “the non-binary model shaking up the fashion industry.”
Noah is signed under the IMG modeling agency, and has walked for well-known designers like Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs. In the i-D cover story, Noah talked about queer Filipino models in the fashion industry. “I feel if non-conforming people don’t experience different things in this industry, it won’t change. I feel like in order to change, we need to get thrown into it and then talk about what happens,” said Noah.
Noah also mentioned the gender norms back in the 2000s where you can’t really express who and what you are. “Once I got to high school, I was just like, you know what? F*ck the system, I’m a bad b*tch, I’m gonna wear what I want and I’m gonna do what I want.”
Noah might be just 18 years old, but he is already embodying the definition of gender fluidity—much more advanced than others. As i-D puts it: “While the runway is still often divided down gendered lines, Noah is happy floating between either, educating people as they go.”
We’re rooting for you, Noah!
