Please bring back these trends from the 2010s

Fashion trends don’t die—they disappear and are reborn after a decade or so.

In the last few years, we saw the resurgence of ‘90s and early ’00s trends, which fueled our nostalgia big time. Now that we’re officially in the 2020s, our prediction is that early 2010s trends will make a comeback this year and beyond.

You might be thinking it’s too soon for these trends to already have a resurgence. But let’s face it, 10 years is already a long time—you can’t even recognize what you looked like in photos from 2010.

So we’re going back in time and listing down the 2010s trends we want to see again this year.

Patterned leggings

Leggings never really went anywhere as we still wear them during casual days and while working out. But patterned leggings? You may think they were tacky back then, but some of them were low-key cute. Of course, we don’t want you to pull out your old cheetah-print pair from way back. We’re sure brands would update this trend by adding minimal prints or going full-on neon for an athleisure look.

Athleisure

Speaking of athleisure, this outfit trend is overdue for an update and the 2020s is the perfect time to do so. We know that a lot of us practically live in athleisure pieces like sports bras, leggings, joggers, and running shoes. But for 2020, we want to see brands put a new spin on athleisure—one that will make us excited again.

Flower crowns

Thanks to “Midsommar,” the return of flower crowns might come sooner than expected. This accessory was a music festival staple in 2014, becoming even more popular when Snapchat added a flower crown filter. That said, we can’t wait to see people making over-the-top renditions of the flower crown at upcoming festivals.

Naked dresses

Celebrities like Rihanna and Kim Kardashian set the bar so high for naked dressing: The former made headlines with her 2014 CFDA Awards Adam Selman dress, while the latter walked the Met Gala 2019 red carpet in a Thierry Mugler piece. The last couple of years saw different styles from sheer to fabrics that match one’s skin tone. Awards season is coming up as well, so we might see some celebrities donning this 2010s trend.

High-waisted “mom” shorts

Remember when Taylor Swift wore a lot of high-waisted shorts in 2013? We do, and we want to wear them again too in 2020. Not only are they comfortable on off days, you can also pair different tops (T-shirts or even crop tops) with them.

Flowy cardigans

Cardigans of various colors and lengths were all the rage in the 2010s. You could wear them to work, while shopping for groceries, and some celebrities wore them to red carpet events. We want this trend back because a good cardigan can be versatile and can keep you warm without the bulkiness.

Ripped jeans

We have a lot of feelings about ripped jeans and how brands have excessively distressed denim. But during the early 2010s, ripped jeans were strategically cut to expose a little bit of your knee or thigh—the holes weren’t so big that you look like you’re wearing shorts instead of pants. Hopefully we can see more of the old ripped style in the coming months.
