“Parasite,” directed by Bong Joon-ho, was named one of the best films of 2019 by movie critics. It won the Palme d’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival where the film earned an eight-minute standing ovation. It also won a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film and is nominated for six Oscars.
The film’s plot revolves around the members of impoverished Kim family who tries to infiltrate the home of the rich Park family. Many have praised “Parasite” for its commentary on class struggle. Bong told Cult Montreal that he wanted to make a film that portrayed the situation of poor citizens in Korea. “It’s very universal, it’s a story about the rich and poor, but in the layers of every detail, there are very specific Korean things. In a way, audiences can be fascinated by seeing the way things work in Korea, but there’s a central core of the film that everyone can agree on — this core about capitalism.”
Go reserve your tickets ASAP because you wouldn’t want to miss this.
