Sex positivity isn’t just about empowering people to have sex with whoever they want as long as it’s consensual. It also teaches people to take responsibility for their sexual health, be it the use of contraceptives or achieving sexual fulfilment.
It seems like many people, especially women, want to focus on the latter this year. Refinery29 noted in early January that sex tech gadgets like smart vibrators were one of the key tech trends at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
According to CNet, this was the first time CES displayed sex tech and they did it to break down the barriers surrounding the conversation on sexual pleasure. This also comes after CES was criticized for revoking the 2019 innovation award for Lora Dicarlo’s Osé, a sex device designed to give women simultaneous clitoral and G-spot orgasms.
“Pleasure is this missing puzzle piece in our overall understanding of our health and well-being that a lot of us are just ignoring,” said Lioness CEO Liz Klinger, who was one of the exhibitors. “Now we’re on the map, which is amazing.”
Conversations surrounding sexual pleasure have been taboo for a long time, even in these progressive times. We’re glad it’s now getting a push through a well-known tech convention like CES.

***
There’s nothing shameful in being interested in getting adult toys for your own and your partner’s sexual pleasure. Just remember to get items that you feel comfortable using and to not be pressured by what other people tell you.
Have fun and stay safe!
