Growing up with a cinephile brother, I was exposed to films at a really young age. There are times, however, that I find myself wanting more information about them (especially if they’re adaptations of a book). If you’re into films as well, you’re probably looking for discussions about the ones you found interesting. From behind-the-scenes discussions to interesting perspectives, immersing yourself more into the worlds created by filmmakers always feels exciting.
Podcasts have been growing more popular than ever among on-the-go women like us. It lets us listen to a particular topic we are actually interested in, rather than just random banter on the radio.
Here’s a list of film podcasts you’re surely going to enjoy:
“The Rewatchables”
Concentrating on films from 1990s onwards, “The Rewatchables” revisits classics and analyzes what makes each scene, character and plot twist encourage you to see it again. Born out of a heated argument on classic films between office friends, they also tackle how differently we process these films after watching it a few more times.
“The Canon”
As L.A. Weekly’s former chief film critic and Boxoffice Magazine’s former editor-in-chief, Amy Nicholson (along with a guest co-host every week) tackles films generally regarded as classics and debates whether or not it’s worthy to be called canon.
“You Must Remember This”
If you’re an old soul, Karina Longworth will surely capture your heart as she reminisces on the secret and forgotten histories of first century Hollywood. Aside from that, she also gives thoughtful insights on various topics surrounding the American film industry—dissecting its every milestone like the MGM studio system and the Hollywood blacklist.
“Endslate”
Hosted by local filmmaker Quark Henares, film critic Ramon de Veyra and film and television producer Mel Lozano-Alcaraz, “Endslate” is a round table discussion on both local and foreign films. They also welcome insights from other filmmakers, creators and celebrities—especially those who are involved in the filmmaking process.
