Nadine Lustre warns against voting for corrupt officials with dirty track records

For a future that’s “malinis, walang dayaan, walang magkukupitan”

The president has spoken once again. No, not that president. We mean Nadine Lustre. The opinionated singer-actress has weighed in on the 2022 presidential elections and she’s got advice on responsible voting.

In a live conversation with TaxWhizPH on March 14, Lustre opened up about who she’s voting for and what she looks for in candidates. “Feeling ko alam naman ng lahat na team pink rin ako,” she said. She cited track records and a genuine concern for the country as her reasons for supporting the tandem of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan.

“What I wanted to say actually was…’yung information [on candidates’ track records] will be very, very useful,” added Lustre on her personal deciding factors. “Kasi if we’re gonna vote for someone who’s corrupt, who has, like a dirty record, ang ending kasi niyan, marami ding gagaya. You get what I mean? So kung ang iboboto natin is malinis, walang dayaan, walang magkukupitan, ’di ba? ’Yun lang naman ‘yung gusto nating lahat at the end of the day. Na maging patas, maging maayos, tsaka maging maganda ’yung buhay ng mga Pilipino.”

While she’s the type to respect other people’s choices, Lustre emphasized the need to inform fellow voters at a time of prevalent misinformation. It’s an issue that’s close to the celebrity’s heart because she considers herself a firsthand victim of fake news.

Lustre has previously spoken about being vocal in supporting your chosen candidate during an episode of the “Wake Up With Jim & Saab” podcast. “You want to encourage people to vote and to be more wise [in] picking. Why would you be ashamed of your picks?” she said on the show. “I know a lot of people kind of look up to me. Not everyone would agree to what I say and my choices. But at least I can inspire and influence people and kind of wake them up na ‘Hey, this is happening to us. I think we should do something about this.’”

The actress has been walking the talk on civic engagement, too. She recently opposed the construction of a bridge in Siargao—where her rumored boyfriend is based—because of environmental concerns.

Want to see more of Lustre? Her comeback movie, suspense-thriller “Greed,” is about to premiere on April 8.
