Like any good Arianator, the first thing you did was check what Ariana Grande posted on her Instagram Story today. And, as did many other Filipino stans, you would’ve been floored to see her post a video from the Leni Robredo – Kiko Pangilinan rally in Pasig on Sunday, March 20. What in the Cher?
“I could not believe this was real,” the singer wrote. “I love you more than words.” (Same!!!)
The singer was reacting to her song “Break Free” being performed by the participants of the PasigLaban rally. It was the biggest gathering of the campaign yet with about 137,000 to 180,000 attendees. I can only imagine how it must feel for Ari to have her song belted out by a pink crowd envisioning a better future for their country. “This is the part when I break free” has a whole new meaning now.
All this was actually thanks to a drag artist.
Drag artist Minty Fresh pumped up the crowd when she performed the song at the rally.

Minty Fresh is the drag persona of makeup artist Min Ortiz. We’d previously featured him in 2019, where he showed us how he transforms into Minty Fresh and talked to us about drag being for everyone.
“I want to educate people through drag so they can understand the culture better, and also learn to accept the [LGBTQ+] community,” he said in our feature.
Now that both Cher and Ariana Grande have both dipped their toes in Philippine politics, I’m dying to see who’s next. Lady Gaga via “Rain On Me,” maybe? Anyway, I’m calling all my fellow Swifties to play “Only the Young” or “Long Live” or anything, really.
