He may have an Academy Award for Best Supporting actor in Dallas Buyers Club, but Jared Leto isn’t about to sit on his laurels and join the list of actors slapped with the dreaded “Oscar Curse.”
It’s been more than a year since his award-winning turn as a transgender named Rayon, and it looks like we aren’t going to see much of the real Jared again until he resurfaces in public to promote his upcoming film Suicide Squad, where he plays The Joker. Just ask co-star Will Smith about him.
In an interview with Beats 1, the actor and rapper, who released his first single in 10 years last week, revealed his co-star’s incredible dedication to staying in character.
“[Suicide Squad] is insane,” he said. “I’ve never actually met Jared Leto. We worked together for six months and we’ve never exchanged a word outside of ‘Action!’ and ‘Cut!’ I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be ‘Hey, Jared. What’s up?’ He was all in on the Joker.”
Reports also surfaced that Jared’s method acting also extended to the pranks he played on the rest of the cast during filming. According to reports, he sent Will a letter with bullets, and a love letter to Margot Robbie in a black box with a live rat! It gets creepier: He also reportedly taped a video addressed to the cast accompanied by a dead hog.
We hope that this is just his healthy way of dealing with his character’s demons, as we prefer that Jared not accept his Oscar post-humously, as actor Heath Ledger did in 2009 for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight.
