Emilio Ocampo was in junior year in New York (yes, he was 17) when he thought of putting up a sneaker store in Manila inspired by the shops he’d visit in his neighborhood. Hence, the name Born on Mott—he lived on Mott Street.
He is very hands-on with the brand and would personally curate the pairs during buying season. “I know what sells and what doesn’t,” he says and that kind of insight is crucial for business.
For their first year anniversary, he thought of putting out a retail line just to widen the variety of products in-store and for him to take his brand to the next level—considering that he is already throwing a party for his regular customers. Definitely big steps for someone so young and quite honestly, we couldn’t be more inspired.
It’s probably second nature to for him to think of businesses related to his interests. He is, after all, the son of Rico and Tina Maristela-Ocampo—the same people behind brands like Celestina, i2i New York, and Sari-Sari. And did we mention that he is the brother of fashion designer Betina? Yup, definitely a creative powerhouse.
