Mermaids just got a creepy upgrade. Polish film The Lure released their trailer and it’s filled with music and man-eating creatures.
Directed by Agnieszka Smoczynska, the film revolves around two mermaids, Silver and Golden, who join a family of musicians and perform at bars at night. After that, they hunt for flesh.
It’s sketchy, I know. But if you think about it, it’s how some mermaids are portrayed in urban legends anyway.
IndieWire’s David Ehrlich calls it “the best goth musical about man-eating mermaids ever made.” He also notes that the film is a cross between Hans Christian Andersen’s tales and rock band Nine Inch Nails.
The Lure will show in New York on Feb. 1. There are no details yet on whether it will have an international screening, but we’re very curious about this.
