As Nina Garcia takes on the role of editor-in-chief of Elle, it marks a homecoming for the style icon. She previously served as the fashion director of the magazine from 2000 to 2008.
She brings a wealth of information and insight for the magazine. Currently, she’s one of the judges of Project Runway, where she gives constructive criticism to the upcoming designers. Their new season celebrates diversity in all shapes and sizes, something that Elle resonates with. “Look at the issue of empowerment and young working women and the obsession with fashion and beauty,” said Hearst Magazine chief of content Joanna Coles to The New York Times. The Elle woman is sexy, passionate, loves her work, is social. She’s someone global millenial women aspire to, and no one represents that more than Nina.”
Nina also has a significant social media following with about 415,000 followers on Instagram and 3.3 million on Twitter. Under her belt are also several books she authored on fashion including The Little Black Book of Style, The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own, The Style Strategy: A Less-is-More Approach to Staying Chic and Shopping Smart, and Nina Garcia’s Look Book: What to Wear for Every Occasion.
She has collaborated with various brands and style platforms. But it still remains fascinating how the Colombian born journalist also got her start at the public relations department of Perry Ellis during the tenure of Marc Jacobs. If there’s one person who knows fashion from the front row to the backstage, it’s got to be her.
Looking forward to what Nina Garcia will bring to one of fashion’s favorite magazines!
