During the recent Miss Universe 2017 pageant, 2016 winner Iris Mittenaere wowed everyone when she took her final walk in a red Michael Cinco gown. It was shimmering with Swarovski crystals from the chest down to the skirt. We all know Michael loves creating fairy tale-like pieces, but how did he and Iris get in touch to work on the piece?
In an interview with Inquirer Lifestyle, Michael said he never met with Iris in person. “We just talked on the phone.” He added that he was contacted by the Miss Universe Organization to design Iris’ dress back in September.
Michael also shared a video of Iris on Instagram. He wrote that it was Iris’ “first and only fitting” of the gown. You could clearly see how happy Iris looked too.
As for the design, Michael said Iris asked to make the gown a mermaid-cut with a detachable train. Plus the Swarovski crystals, of course. Great choice!
Before her walk, Iris said that she wanted to look regal during her last moments as Miss Universe 2016. She achieved that and more as all eyes were on her. You know what would’ve been a good touch? If she wore the Mikimoto crown with the gown before passing it on to Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.
