Growing up, I was interested in makeup. Like other little girls, I’d ask my mom to buy me lip gloss in shades of pink. I even had one of those Bratz busts and I’d put glitter on her lids and lips. I even borrowed my mom’s shimmer lotion for no reason. (Yes, this was before Riri’s Body Lava.)
As I got older, things changed. My interest in makeup didn’t go beyond buying the occasional tube of lipstick or struggling to apply eyeliner. It’s funny, I actually subscribe to a lot of beauty vloggers on YouTube and watch their reviews and tutorials, but I’ve never bought a bottle of foundation. I’m intrigued by the products and want to see how they look on them, but I would never buy an eyeshadow palette for myself.
I have nothing against makeup but I like the way my bare face looks—apart from my eyebrows. I always have eyebrows on. And I work pretty hard to keep my skin in good condition. It also doesn’t help that my knowledge of how to apply makeup is slim to none. The only products I really use are the occasional concealer and eyeliner, lipstick, and of course, highlighter. But more often than not, I keep my face the way it is.
I’ve also never really felt the need for any of these products. I’m pretty happy with my skin so I don’t use foundation. Blush? My cheeks already get pretty red on its own so no thanks. I’m afraid of things hitting my eyes so I stay away from mascara and eyelash curlers. (I don’t know how to use one actually.)
Another reason why I don’t slap on heavy makeup is because I don’t have the patience for it. Others find it therapeutic and can spend hours blending their eyeshadow but I just get frustrated if I even try. I would much better spend that time sleeping or watching Netflix.
As much as I love seeing intricate eyeshadow looks, bronzed-up faces, and even gimmicky products like a glitter powder puff, I love my bare face more.
