FUPA search skyrockets after Beyoncé mentioned it in ‘Vogue’

Vogue cover comparisons aside, Beyoncé’s feature (which was written by her!) has been the talk of the Internet since it was released last night. There, she talked about various things from her recent pregnancy to opening doors for different ethnicities. But what intrigued readers was her candid take on her body changes, particularly the acronym “FUPA.”

“To this day my arms, shoulders, breasts, and thighs are fuller. I have a little mommy pouch, and I’m in no rush to get rid of it. I think it’s real,” Bey wrote. “Whenever I’m ready to get a six-pack, I will go into beast zone and work my ass off until I have it. But right now, my little FUPA and I feel like we are meant to be.”

Fat upper pelvic area or FUPA is a term used to describe “a more pronounced or ‘padded’ upper genital region.” Because people were so curious, Dictionary.com reported that searches for the term skyrocketed because of Beyoncé.

Searches for the meaning of FUPA have ? on https://t.co/EoMLt7nGp1. This acronym just got the Beyonce Vogue treatment! https://t.co/PiD7BV9IcV https://t.co/M2fSa6UUof

We also checked Google Trends and there was a spike around the same time as when the Vogue feature came out in the Philippines.

Likewise, netizens praised Bey for her honesty on the matter and for giving women more confidence.

Beyoncé: Making a normal occurrence in the body—that’s often seen as unappealing by society—a normal discussion. Bless her.
