One of the longstanding wedding traditions is that brides need something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue on their wedding day. It is said to bring them good luck as they tie the knot. In a new documentary, the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, who knows a thing or two about traditions, reminisced over hers. She revealed that a piece of a dress, stitched somewhere inside her bridal gown, was her “something blue” for her wedding. “It’s fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date,” she explained.
The documentary entitled Queen Of The World, is a two-part program which examines the Queen’s role on the global stage. Through it, Meghan also revealed that the first time she saw her veil was actually the morning of her wedding itself. “I knew that it would be a fun surprise as well for my now-husband, who didn’t know, and he was really over the moon to find out that I would make this choice for our day together.” The duchess said she trusted Givenchy dress designer Clare Waight Keller enough with the veil, which featured an embroidery of flowers from each of the 53 Commonwealth nations.
The full iconic outfit was displayed for a new exhibition at Buckingham Palace, to the delight of the duchess. “It’s nice to see it again. It’s beautiful,” she said.
