I’m sure you’re still on a Miss U high. This year is historic for us. We love how the beauty pageant is stepping up their game too, as Twitter user Nica noted. The questions explored significant issues instead of shallow ones that can easily be answered with cheesy, generic answers.
Love that the #MissUniverse questions are super relevant & timely – issues like press freedom, #metoo, drug use, feminist movement-building. Step up talaga. Next time may sasagot na ng “According to CEDAW…” tapos “As per article keme of section keme”

But the organization isn’t the only one that’s woke. Though many disagree, we actually love how netizens aren’t just dismissive of our win. The deeper questions warrant a deeper answer, and although we think Catriona did amazing, Twitter, particularly, voiced its two cents and we think they’re worth discussing. First up, her stance on the legalization of marijuana.
And yet, Ms. Philippines, despite the fact that alcohol & tobacco abuse have killed millions of people & much fewer deaths have been attributed to marijuana, we have legalised alcohol & tobacco, & allowed both industries to lobby our health policy. https://t.co/UEpA6sbcV6

About time also that we advocate for its recreational use. Even @catrionaelisa said in her 1st press con that "in terms of recreational marijuana, perhaps we could learn more & then put in place certain regulations before pursuing further." Mabuhay ka, enlightened #MissUniverse!

On the other hand, these users said their sentiments in a hilariously witty manner, which we’re also all for.

As to Catriona’s winning answer, while we applaud it, we also think these users have a lot of valid points in saying we can expound a lot more on the issue touched.
When @catrionaelisa comes home, I wonder if a reporter would dare to ask her – Your heart goes out to the children of Tondo. How do you feel about children from Tondo becoming 'collateral damage' in the President's war on drugs? Do you agree they should be treated as such? https://t.co/Xhh6Xv8Mzb

See the beauty in the faces of the poor children? See the silver lining and learn from that? Be grateful? Super kulang pa. Pero sana open siya at maglaan siya ng oras na laliman yung pagunawa niya pagkatapos nito. https://t.co/qaGGMc0xj9

Remember, like @MillennialOfMNL stressed, criticizing Catriona’s answer doesn’t mean we don’t support and celebrate her victory. All we’re saying is, Miss Universe is a platform for change, so it’s actually the perfect time to talk about it. We’re sure Catriona would value these insights, too.
