Women supporting women: Events that will empower you

March is a month filled with events aimed at empowering girls and women, especially on the 8th which is International Women’s Day. This year’s no different as the metro will be filled with ’em and you can choose one or more depending on your interests, as well as the advocacies you want to support.

If you’re looking for somewhere to go to celebrate Women’s Month, make sure to mark these on your calendar. You can also check back here for other events happening within the month.

Women and War Exhibit

When: March 6 to 10, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: Ayala Museum, Makati Avenue corner Dela Rosa Street, Makati City

How did Filipino women live during World War II? If you’ve always wondered this, go check out Ayala Museum’s Women and War exhibit, which has been extended until March 10. Find the woman—be it a soldier or a farmer—who inspires you in the photographs and paintings you’ll encounter.

International Women’s Day Summit

When: March 8, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Samsung Hall, 6/F SM Aura Premier, McKinley Parkway corner 26th Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City

This all-day summit will feature many of the Philippines’ leading women, including Vice-President Leni Robredo. The best part aside from the lessons you’ll learn from the talks? It’s free! You just need to register here for first dibs at the seats.

Tama Na, Sulong Kababaihan

When: March 8, 4 p.m.

Where: La Madre Filipina, Luneta Park, Roxas Boulevard, Malate, Manila City

“Sick of misogyny? Get your placards ready,” Grrrl Gang Manila asked on Instagram. The ladies behind this non-profit group is surely celebrating International Women’s Day by protesting all forms of misogyny in the country. If you’re interested and ready to create a sign to bring to the rally, just DM Grrrl Gang Manila to ask where you can meet up.

Gandang Ganda sa Sariling Gawa 2

When: March 16, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: Silangan Hall, Cultural Center of the Philippines, CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City

Support local female artists in this small-ish (there are a lot of booths, okay) fair. You can find zines, stickers, comics, and more. Feel free to browse and buy their works for your personal collection.

She Talks Asia Summit 2019

When: March 16

Where: The Globe Tower, 32nd Street corner 7th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City

For the third year in a row, She Talks Asia is hosting another summit featuring the country’s leading women including Rissa Mananquil-Trillo, Nicole Villarojo, and more. Listen to how they’ve empowered themselves and inspire other women with their stories and advocacies.

Circus: Women’s Month Edition

When: March 23

Where: XX XX

 

Get to know the ladies in the local music scene at this event. Enjoy DJ sets in the club and courtyard and band performances in the bar. With an all-female lineup, notice the difference in the energy and give them the same love you would men in the music industry. Go by yourself or bring your friends along with you for a night of music, food, and women.
