JSYK: ‘Mystified’ isn’t another ‘Encantadia’

Encantadia fans are in for a treat because Mystified, starring Iza Calzado, Karylle, Diana Zubiri, and Sunshine Dizon, will be premiering on March 29, 9 p.m. on IFLIX for free—no membership required—and will be shown in 22 countries. Whoa!

When the teaser trailer dropped last February, fans couldn’t help but compare the two projects’ fantasy themes. But director Mark A. Reyes promised that it’s entirely different.

Mark, who also worked on Encantadia in 2006 and the reboot in 2016, told members of the media that he made sure Mystified wasn’t just another Encantadia spin-off. “All the characters and their personalities are different. You won’t see Pirena, Amihan, Alena, and Danaya here,” he said. Plus, in case you didn’t know, the film is produced by Sang’gre Productions which is run by Iza, Karylle, Diana, and Sunshine, along with direk Mike.

Mystified is centered around The Coven of Four’s quest to protect a magic portal that holds the evil Hellga (played by Sunshine Cruz) and keep her from wreaking havoc in the real world. However, they aren’t allowed to use their powers as they live “normal” lives. But if you’ve seen the trailer, you already know that they have to face evil once again to save the world.

The Sang’gres (it’s more of a friendship indicator now as much as it is a Filipino pop culture reference) shared that this project started in 2016 and they shot scenes despite their busy schedules. They added that, as much as possible, they did their own stunts, which was both fulfilling and sometimes painful. Sunshine even quipped she sent a selfie to their group chat with her body filled with Salonpas patches.

So for the Encantadia fandoms out there who are worried about Mystified‘s plot, you can breathe a sigh of relief now. Also, watch out for our story tomorrow to hear more from the four ladies who made this show possible.
