Whether you’re single and ready to mingle, or just relishing being able to do things on your own, there’s a municipality in Quezon province that will pay you for trying to find true love. Sounds too good to be true?
General Luna Mayor Matt Florido made news on Feb. 4 when he announced on Facebook a paid leave for single employees looking for love. Writes Florido in the post: “Para sa mga LGU (local government unit) employees na single: Pinapayagan ko [kayong] mag-leave sa Feb. 12. Ilaan niyo ang buong araw sa paghahanap ng inyong forever upang makaabot kayo sa Feb. 14. With pay ang leave niyo, kasi naka-support ako sa pinagdadaanan niyo. OK? Lab u!”
He then edited the post to add: “P.S. Dahil holiday nga pala ang Feb. 12 at Chinese New Year, maaari kayong mag-file ng leave sa Feb. 11. Mahaba-haba [pa] ang oras niyo para maghanap.”

The amusing declaration is like a wish come true for all single individuals whose catchphrase is “Sana all may forever.” We get the yearning. But for those who aren’t really looking for a date on Valentine’s Day, can they still file a leave for self-care activities? We don’t have other details on this offered leave, but we sure hope so.
In an interview with GMA News, Florido said he had offered the paid leave “to make sure everyone will be happy during the celebration of Valentine’s Day amid the COVID-19 pandemic,” and that this special perk “is part of the reward for the employees, for their diligence in performing their duties.”
It’s a cute pre-Valentine’s Day surprise—one that we’re wishing we could get too. Sana all.
