Crowds gathered as Netflix held the premiere of Santa Clarita Diet season two in the middle of a mall—the best part is having the lead stars Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant fly in. O M G.
As they walked out the elevator and onto the red carpet, I spotted something familiar on Drew, and said, “Are those designed by Ken Samudio?” She wore the famous Fleur earrings in Blanc (which I also own, BTW) and made it the standout accessory of her all-black ensemble.
We chatted with the designer Ken to find out how Drew ended up with one of his pieces. Apparently, when fate steps in, everything else simply follows.
“I didn’t know,” said Ken. “[TV host] Lyn Ching was wearing my earrings during the interview with Drew and said, ‘I am desperate for your earrings,’ and Lyn gave it to her as a gift.”
“I was in Marikina with my supplier when I learned about it and I was over the moon. I was so happy because Drew said she never asked for anything candidly until she saw the earrings.” But Drew did not just fall in love with one pair of earrings. Another TV host Marie Lozano came in the interview wearing another design by Ken, a pair of seahorses made of Capiz shells. “No way! Who is this designer??” said Drew, it’s safe to say that she is super aligned with Ken’s design aesthetic. When Marie offered to give Drew the pair, she goes, “Are you kidding?”
Ken said that he sent her a few more of his designs, so you better watch out when she’ll wear them!
“Drew has always been my favorite celebrity,” Ken adds. “She has this childlike demeanor and humor that aging does not change. From what I’ve heard, she is the real deal which is exactly the kind of woman I design my jewelry for! I’m still on cloud nine TBH.”
When I asked Ken which celebrity he wants to wear his pieces next, he said, “Cate Blanchett!”
