Living a zero waste lifestyle isn’t a fad, it’s making a conscious effort to try and save the environment. The amount of trash we have already produced is unimaginable so the least we can do is try and create better habits. I think that becoming completely waste-free doesn’t happen overnight but there are some quick and easy steps you can start taking now. They might seem minuscule at first but when you start to see how often you reach for these reusable products, you will realize how many times you used to use something disposable in its place. There are many products that you can start to switch out today but to help you out, here’s a list of products that I’ve started using in the past year or so to help you get on the right track.
Rraw Reusable Bent Steel Straw
I don’t care if you’re going to shame me for using a metal straw, that won’t stop me. I started using one just a few months ago and only then did I realize how much I actually use straws. Whether it be in the cinema for my lemonade, drive thru iced tea, or occasional green tea frappucino, the metal straw has become my BFF. Miniso Utensils Set
Another reusable item you can start using are utensils. If you bring food to work or order takeout, forgo the plastic spoons and forks. Pack a set in your bag instead. Lock & Lock Oven Glass Rectangular Food Keeper
I bring food to work and I don’t use disposable containers. Depending on what my food is, I’ll either use plastic or glass food keepers. I also use these for out of town trips to pack my snacks. Beabi Foldable Bag
I always keep a foldable reusable bag with me. Whether I go to the grocery or have some shopping to do, I ask them not to give me a paper bag. I just bring out my packable one. Ecobar Hydrate Shampoo Bar
Live zero waste in the shower by using a shampoo bar. Ecobar has different kinds depending on your needs like hydration. This is enriched with seaweed extract that encourages scalp hydration. A water bottle is something else I keep with me. Not only will this make sure that I stay hydrated throughout the day but this also lessens waste. You can use one when you order a drink at a restaurant or coffee at your favorite cafe. This one can hold both hot and cold drinks and it’s compact so you can throw it in your bag. H&M Home 2-Pack Tea Towels
Instead of stocking paper towels in your space, opt for rags and towels instead. I’m a klutz and known for spilling things so a mess is bound to occur in my surroundings. Since this happens to me a lot, I make sure to use cloth towels instead of paper. Available at SM Makati.
Zero Basics Toothpaste and Toothpowder
Take of your oral hygiene and the environment with Zero Basics’ products. Their toothpaste and toothpowder both come in glass jars that you can reuse. Sportland Tea Co. Tea Infuser Cup with Double Wall Glass
I stopped drinking coffee last year and incorporated tea into my life instead. I’m pretty obsessed and love black tea. Instead of buying tea bags at the supermarket, I opt for loose leaf tea in tin cans instead. I make tea two different ways depending on my mood. I either use a tea ball or double wall glass with an infuser. I let the tea steep for a few minutes and remove the glass filter. Available at online.
