Here’s how Nike responded to the banning of Serena Williams’ catsuit

We all cheered for Serena Williams when she got back in the game after giving birth to her daughter. She’d wear full compression power suits to prevent blood clots, “I feel like a warrior in it, like a warrior princess kind of, [a] queen from Wakanda. I’m always living in a fantasy world. I always wanted to be a superhero, and it’s kind of my way of being a superhero. I feel like a superhero when I wear it.”

While we were all admiring her suit, the French Tennis Federation was not into it and banned Serena from wearing similar suits based on the new dress code. “I think that sometimes we’ve gone too far,” said the federation’s president Bernard Giudicelli. “It will no longer be accepted. One must respect the game and the place.”

In response, Nike posted the words “You can take the superhero out of her costume, but you can never take away her superpowers,” on a photo of Serena mid-game. Simple, but powerful.

Serena also responded to the new dress code: “When it comes to fashion, you don’t want to be a repeat offender. I think that obviously the Grand Slams have a right to do what they want to do. I feel like if and when, or if they know that some things are for health reasons, then there’s no way that they wouldn’t be okay with it. So I think it’s fine.”

What are your thoughts on the French Open’s dress code? Do you think it’s fair that they banned the catsuit given that it’s connected to a health issue? Let us know in the comments section below or tweet us @preenph.
