‘Vogue’ draws flak for calling the Manson Murders a “catalyst” for a beauty trend

Vogue has incited backlash yet again. On social media, the publication has posted a beauty trend inspired by the Manson Murders, a grisly crime which took the lives of five people, including actress Sharon Tate who was then eight months pregnant. To this day, the massacre which took place in the 1960s, continues to haunt the public, and widely tackled in pop culture. Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, a movie by Quentin Tarantino about the crime, is set to be released this year.

Perhaps that’s why Vogue Beauty thought it was acceptable to cite the tragic incident as a “catalyst” for the revival of a ’60s hair trend. Using a photograph of singer Jorja Smith, they wrote on Instagram, “With this summer marking the 50th anniversary of the Manson family murders and the tragic death of Sharon Tate, the catalyst for the ’60s revival is a surprise to no one. Tap the link in our bio to see how five It girls have modernized vintage looks.”

Understandably, netizens are not here for it.

Although the post was deleted, the article that was linked to can still be seen on the website. It lists down several actresses in sporting looks popularized by the late actress Sharon Tate.
