The beauty trend today is all about looking for natural and sustainable alternatives. This time, people are looking at bakuchiol to replace their retinol products.
But wait, what exactly is bakuchiol? Elle explained it’s a chemical compound extracted from bakuchi plant seeds. It has antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, and works like retinol even though they don’t have any structural resemblance. This means that bakuchiol, just like retinol, can boost collagen and elastin production, as well as reduce inflammation.
The real selling point for people is it’s gentler than other retinol products. It’s become so popular that Pinterest searches for the product rose by 275 percent before 2018 ended. Estée Laundry also called bakuchiol “one of the hottest ingredients of 2019.”
