Prepping for ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ means avoiding social media

It’s finally that time of the year: “Star Wars” season!

In case you didn’t know, “Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker” is having a special Philippine premiere from Dec. 20 to 22. This is huge because December is usually dedicated to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). You can just imagine how determined fans were to get advanced tickets to the screenings happening this weekend.

If you got your tickets, here are a few pointers to keep in mind before you dive into the final movie of the trilogy.

Re-watch “The Last Jedi”

In case you forgot what happened in “Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi,” you can still re-watch it on Netflix before it gets pulled by Disney. You can even plan a viewing party with your friends so you can theorize what will happen next.

Avoid reviews

“The Rise of Skywalker” has premiered in other countries so there are already early reviews out. We know some of you are curious about what people think, but do yourself a favor and just avoid them. Reading reviews might temper your expectations and even spoil you. I mean, you do want to find out for yourself how Rey will possibly join the Dark Side, right?

Log out of social media

If “Avengers: Endgame” taught us anything, it’s that people will still post spoilers even after a global campaign to not do so. Just log out of all your social media accounts and save yourself from your friends’ oversharing.

Follow up with your movie buddies

Make sure you remind your friends that you have a movie to catch this weekend. This is also important so you can work out where you’ll meet or if you have to pick them up from work. Remember: The Christmas rush is hectic so you need to plan ahead!

Wear your “Star Wars” merch

Graphic T-shirt? Check. Jedi robe? Check. A lightsaber if it’s allowed in the cinema? Triple check.

Buy snacks

No movie is complete without snacks. If you’re looking for other options aside from popcorn or nachos, check out our list here.

***

If you’re not going to watch “The Rise of Skywalker” this weekend, it’s totally fine! The movie is will be screened in the Philippines on Jan. 8, 2020. You just need to avoid spoilers for a longer period though.

For those who are watching, have fun and don’t spoil it for anyone!
