Grimes revealed who the godmother of the baby formerly known as X Æ A-12 is and the answer was quite unexpected. The singer replied to a fan asking whether X Æ A-Xii’s godmother is K-pop artist Go Won with a curt yes. Whether it was just funny fan interaction or an honest confirmation, the internet is asking, “Who is Go Won?”

Go Won is a member of a South Korean girl group named LOONA. Her first music release was back in 2018 with a self-titled single album under the group’s pre-debut project. The album contained two tracks, “One&Only” and “See Saw” which featured fellow LOONA members Chuu and Kim Lip. A lot of K-pop idols are known to undergo rigorous and long trainee periods but Go Won revealed in an interview that she signed her contract with record label Blockberry Creative in the same month her solo album came out.
So, when did she meet Grimes? Before LOONA debuted as a 12-member group on their concert called “LOONAbirth,” they were split into sub-units. Go Won was part of yyxy (which stands for youth youth by young) along with Yves, Chuu and Olivia Hye. In May 2018, they released the mini-album “beauty&thebeat.” Its title track is “love4eva” which featured Grimes. The copy and paste meme “Hello, finally introducing Loona. Are you girls ready? Okay, let’s go!” going around are actually Grimes’ lines in the song. Last year, Grimes hinted at another LOONA collab but we weren’t able to hear it on her latest album “Miss Anthropocene.”
You might wonder why Grimes agreed to team up with a rookie group. The concept for yyxy might have piqued her interest. K-pop group concepts are like themes attached to their sound and look. This concept is sometimes also connected to a fictional world with the groups’ members as protagonists. If BTS has the Bangtan Universe, LOONA has a LOONAVERSE existing in a möbius strip. Sounds a lot like it’s right up Grimes’ alley, doesn’t it?
In the LOONAVERSE, yyxy also stands for a “neanthropic” (which pertains to a form of modern human) chromosome which they declare is superior to xx or xy chromosomes. The narrative follows these four girls living in a separate dimension called Eden and how they learned about the connection between youth and ego after eating the Forbidden Fruit. It’s an interesting coincidence how it borrows from “The Book of Genesis” and how the internet was joking about X Æ A-Xii being the antichrist. If the baby does end up having the potential to bring havoc into our lives when they grow up (you know, just billionaire baby things), perhaps Go Won can help shape them up into a nice kid a la “Good Omens.” Do you think she’ll be up to the task? Poor (not literally) X Æ A-Xii. Having a K-pop idol as their godparent probably won’t be the weirdest thing they’ll have to deal with.
