Heads up, Filipino Drag Fans! “Pinay Fiesta Queens,” a digital drag show hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 4 queen Jiggly Caliente, has been moved to Jun. 12, Friday.
The drag show was originally scheduled for May 30, but Jiggly uploaded a video explanation on her IGTV, detailing the reason for the change of date. In the video, Jiggly elaborates that she and the cast felt that it wasn’t right to put on the show at this time because of the recent events in the United States.
She hopes that by the date of the show, everything would have settled down: “I’m praying that by then, we won’t be in such social unrest. I’m really hoping that it [gets] a little bit better. I just don’t think that doing a show this weekend would be right.”
Regarding the recent protests that have been going on since the murder of George Floyd, Jiggly also offers a few words of caution to the protestors: “I hope everybody has a good Saturday weekend, despite everything. If you are in areas where they are rioting right now please, please be careful. I understand you want to protest, I understand everybody is upset, we all are. Just please take care of yourselves while you’re out there.”
Queens performing at the digital drag show are Manila Luzon and Rock M. Sakura. Queens like Tila Pia, Diva Soria, Aura Mayari and Bibingka Mama are also part of the lineup. Although it has been moved to a later date, the show will still be streamed on Twitch and all donations will still be going to help front liners in the Philippines as well as the Golden Gays and other elderly LGBTQ+ communities in the country.
