Bouts of nostalgia are very real this quarantine and for those wishing for a reboot or revival of their favorite childhood movies, include “The Parent Trap” in your list.
While it’s sadly not a full-on revival, People reports that “The Parent Trap” cast has prepared a reunion special for the film’s 22nd anniversary—and it’s for a good cause too, as the special will help raise funds for non-profit organization World Central Kitchen that provides emergency food relief efforts and resiliency programs across America.
A short refresher on “The Parent Trap,” because it’s been years since this movie has crossed my mind, despite how much I loved watching it on TV; the movie follows Annie James and Hallie Parker, twins who were separated at birth who discover each other in a summer camp. The twins, both played by Lindsay Lohan before she was running the school as a mean girl, hatch a plan to get their parents back together.
Journalist Katie Couric shared a trailer for the reunion earlier today which shows all of the cast recounting iconic moments, sharing on-set stories and their thoughts on why “The Parent Trap” is, to this day, a classic film. Aside from the whole cast, the brains and brawn behind the film, director Nancy Myers and writer-producer Charles Shyer, will also be in the reunion special, and rightfully so, as we have them to thank for our dire childhood need of a twin.
Lindsay Lohan clued us all in on something special two days ago, when she posted a film still on Instagram with the caption “Can’t wait” but it seems like her plan-hatching skills are just as flawless as Annie and Hallie’s because I did not see that coming. Still, I’m very much excited to watch the reunion, airing on Katie Couric’s Instagram tomorrow, July 21 at 9 p.m., to relive my summer camp dreams. Plus, I’m waiting to see if we’ll see two Lindsay Lohans in the reunion special, but maybe that’s just wishful thinking.
