Shawols, Exols, and NCTzens are teaming up today to break streaming records with the music video drop for SuperM’s “100.” The much-awaited comeback comes almost a full year after the release of their debut song “Jopping.” Their new track is a similar mix of hip-hop with EDM and the group is once again sporting varied looks that when combined with the video’s elements shouldn’t work but they pull it off with flair.
In the opening shot of the MV, we see the members with glowing red eyes in a futuristic set. If anybody asked us what the group’s concept is, a screencap of this can be our go-to response (ICYDK, The M in SuperM stands for both matrix and master.). The visual party begins with the boys showing off their moves in different sections of what may be a spaceship. With this group, you never know what you’re going to get.
Her are some of our favorite shots from the stylish video.
Taemin’s looks like a dashing cowboy in space (Full disclosure, he did remind us of Doug Dimmadome from “The Fairly Oddparents.”) in his white on white get-up. Leave it to the Shinee member to pull it off. We also never thought we’d be into the idea of a car race in space but here we are. If the group ever holds a press conference, we’d like to ask if that is, in fact, an elevator behind him.
This is giving us major “2001: A Space Odyssey” vibes. The contrast of the glaring sun with the unidentifiable monolith made for an eye-catching backdrop for Baekhyun. We’d like to ask the stylists why they picked that monogram jacket because we can’t help but wonder if it means something to the MV’s narrative. Is he some kind of space lord?
Taeyong’s position as one of the group’s visuals cannot be contested. His sharp face profile is on full display here and the expression on his face just spells danger. Fans have been comparing him to “My Hero Academia’s” Todoroki because of his half-and-half hair color which adds to how much he looks like a CG work of art. Can someone please model a video game character after him?
We can hardly wait for the full-length album coming this September. In the meantime, we’ll be rewatching this visual treat and shouting “We go hundred” with the boys. Watch the full music video below.
