Mark your calendars, ReVeluvs—actress Irene is coming in February

This is not a drill, ReVeluvs! Red Velvet’s Irene will officially be making her silver screen debut next month.

The singer’s upcoming film “Double Patty” is a coming-of-age story revolving around Lee Hyun Ji, an aspiring anchorwoman who works two jobs played by Irene, and Kang Woo Ram, a professional wrestler going through a slump played by “Love Alarm’s” Shin Seung Ho. The film is set to be released in February.

Irene’s character will show her cool side as Hyun Ji, a hardworking woman who also enjoys an occasional drink alone at a samgyupsal resto. She and Woo Ram grow closer in the film as the wrestler orders double patty burgers right before the restaurant Hyun Ji works at closes every night.

Both Irene and Seung Ho received presentation lessons and wrestling classes to prepare for their roles. The film’s director Baek Seung Kwan praised the K-pop star for her skills and said, “She has detail and focus, which she has honed for a long time.” Anchor Lee Ji In, Irene’s coach, meanwhile shared that she was very focused to learn her role. “She always reviewed what she learned, and the way she analyzed and thought over the course was memorable,” the anchor said.

Similarly, Seung Ho received two months of wrestling training with the athletes from Yong In University. He slept, ate and trained with them at their dorms and facilities to portray his role. He had to put in a lot of effort to fit into his role since the film’s director was looking for an actor like Channing Tatum to play his character.

“From when we were working on the scenario, we had in mind an actor like Channing Tatum. It felt like all our problems were solved when we met Shin Seung Ho,” the director said. “He has a flexible feel, humorous personality, and remarkable acting talent, and I fell for the way he continuously refines himself despite having all of these strengths.”

Mark your calendars ReVeluvs, the film hits the silver screen on Feb. 17. We’re high key hoping that it drops to streaming services available in the Philippines, too.
