We asked three Filipinas about how their hair made them more confident

We spoke with three Filipinas with different hair types to find out how their problems transformed into becoming their source of confidence

Dealing with hair damage can be a nightmare. With so many tips posted on TikTok, and the good old word-of-mouth from our personally trusted beauty gurus, is there really a product that can make hair more manageable for the day-to-day?

We spoke with three Filipinas with different hair types to find out how their problems transformed into becoming their source of confidence.

Working in the entertainment industry, Lura Luyon dealt with too much heat and styling which greatly damaged her hair. Having naturally thin hair did not help, as it made hair fall more prevalent in her case.

This affected her self-confidence and made her more conscious about her hair and scalp, as styling options also became limited because of her hair situation.

“My hair is very important because it is one of the things that people can see. Especially during events and gigs, my hair can also show my overall look for the day,” she said.

Meanwhile, it wasn’t any better for Francine Quisha Morales who suffered from frizz. Having thick and wavy hair, her usual hair-enemy was the humid weather which led her to tying her hair instead.

“As much as I would want to put my hair down and flaunt it, I would just rather hide it. That way, it would be one less problem for the day,” she said.

“Frizz, dryness, and hairfall were the usual challenges I faced with my hair. It did not look healthy at all and was very sensitive to shifts in weather or temperature. It would tend to frizz up at the slightest change of environment,” Francine added.

Opting to cut her hair off was Raina Jonice Reynoso, but it did not stop her from having split ends. Like Lura and Francine, Raina was stuck on what she can do to fix her hair problems.

“To cover up the split ends, I would often go to the salon to get perms or curls. I loved having long hair so I was hesitant to cut it, but the split ends became so severe that at times I had no choice but to cut it very short,” Raina shared.

All of them tried to find alternative ways to fix their hair problems, but it was only after they tried Dove that they started seeing change and improvement.

More than a ‘pretty’ outer appearance

For Lura, she noticed having less hair fall after carefully considering the products that she used on her hair. She did this by applying protectants when styling her hair and reading up on ingredients of the products she applied.

“First tip is to use hair care products that can really support and nourish the hair. It is important to look at the ingredients make sure that it is mild and test it out to see the effect. Also, prepare the hair by using protectants before and after styling… a great shampoo can also protect and nourish your hair so you have the freedom to style it however way you want! Dove hair care line is one of the greatest products you can easily find in the market,” she said.

Francine echoed this sentiment, adding that knowing the right conditioner will help in making the hair less frizzy.

“For the wavy-haired girls out there, always use a conditioner that works for you. Keeping your hair moisturized at all times is key to lessen frizz and dryness… I knew my hair improved a lot when I was already able to wear it down more often and style it in different ways,” she said.

Trying Dove and paying more attention to one’s hair truly boosted the girls’ confidence. Raina said that knowing what is good for her hair became a transformative journey. More than looking great, it made her have more self-confidence.

“The transformation of my hair has significantly boosted my confidence and self-image. With the help of Dove, it made my hair healthier and more manageable, making me feel more positive about my appearance and myself. It has made me feel better and more self-assured in different situations, which has positively impacted my overall well-being and how I interact with others,” she said.

A 5-step guide to great hair

This led Raina to having her own ‘hair care tips’. This 5-step journey is her guide to having great hair, which she hopes can help others too:

  1. Regular Trimming: Regularly trimming your hair helps prevent split ends and keeps your hair looking healthy and neat.
  2. Gentle Hair Care: Handle your hair with care, especially when wet. Use a wide-toothed comb to detangle gently and avoid harsh pulling.
  3. Minimize Heat Styling: Limit the use of heat styling tools, such as straighteners and curling irons, as excessive heat can cause damage to your hair.
  4. Choose the Right Products, Choose Dove!: Look for hair care products that are suitable for your specific hair type and concerns, such as those designed to repair and nourish damaged hair like Dove!
  5. Nutritious Diet: A balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals is essential for healthy hair growth and overall hair health.

“By following these tips, you can help restore and maintain the health of your hair, just like I did with the help of Dove. Remember, consistency and patience are key to achieving healthier and more beautiful hair,” she added.
