Admit it, everything that comes out of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s mouth is criticized and this should be expected as he is about to hold the highest position in the country. But what happens when we have someone who is rough around the edges and has a different sense of humor? He ends up getting a lot of flak. And we mean, a lot.
In that light, Rodrigo Duterte threatened to not have any press conferences during his six-year term. “I’m sorry, but I will really boycott (the media),” he tells TV5 in a chance interview last Sunday night.
“That’s it. I don’t want to be interviewed. If I commit a mistake, there will be more criticisms,” Rodrigo said. “So it’s better (if there’s) no interview, no criticisms, no wrong statements, no nothing. (I will just) shut up. I really don’t want it,” he added.
From the rape joke to the catcalling incident and even his comment about the media assassination—it really doesn’t seem to end for our upcoming President. And to think that he hasn’t formally started his term. But here’s to hoping we find common ground between the media and the President. Because what’s a six-year term without communication? No relationship works that way.
