Birdshot, a coming-of-age story which has made the rounds in local cinemas via Cinemalaya and premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival, has been selected to represent the Philippines in the Best Foreign-Language Film category at the 90th Academy Awards.
24-year-old Mikhail Red shared the news on his Instagram account. Mikhail is the director of the film and co-screenplay writer with cousin Rae Red. The thriller follows a girl and her realizations after shooting a Phillipine eagle.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that the selection by the The Film Academy of the Philippines was a tight one. Birdshot was up against Sunday Beauty Queen for the honor. Jose Carreon, the chairman of the academy, was said to be the one to break the tie.
Good luck to everyone over at Birdshot! If they win, they will be the first movie to win the said category for the Philippines who has yet to enter the shortlist of nominees for Best Foreign-Language Film.
