Kim Kardashian split up with her friend and assistant Stephanie Shepherd, well, at least professionally. Steph has been working as Kim’s assistant for four years, the two met before Kim gave birth to North. Last May, Steph even shared that she was promoted as COO for Kim Kardashian West Brands. So, what caused the sudden breakup?
“They just agreed their working relationship was no longer working,” says a source to US Weekly. “Steph is still a part of Kim and her family’s life—she went to Kim’s birthday dinner and Kendall’s birthday party. There isn’t bad blood there. They still hang out and are friends, but they have gone their separate ways and are not working together anymore.”
Another source shared that “it’s been a downward spiral” ever since Steph was featured on Refinery29. She did not say anything bad about her boss, but she was quite frank with what happens on the inside including how Kanye really was behind closed doors. “Other stuff happened on top of that that left a bad taste in Kim’s mouth,” the source adds.
On the other hand, People reports that Steph was simply not ready for bigger responsibilities. “She was a good assistant but when Stephanie wanted to transition into a larger role with Kim’s brand and businesses, it just didn’t work,” the source tells People. “Kim gave her the chance but after a short period of time it became clear that Stephanie just didn’t have the knowledge to take on a role like that. Kim made an executive decision to part ways.”
On the episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians last Oct. 29, Kim also talked about the strain in her relationship with Steph. She found it unprofessional that her assistant was friends with her sister Kourtney—so close that the two would talk about Steph’s issues at work behind Kim’s back.
“Just a heads up, we were talking and she was saying that she didn’t know what she wanted to do in life,” Kourtney told Kim. “She feels, like, maybe she’s in a place in life where she’s unfulfilled, job-wise.” Kim was obviously shocked and said, “I do think it’s, like, inappropriate for her to talk to you and not to me.”
Yikes, whatever it is. I hope they settle it and Kim finds an assistant soon. She’s expecting her third child via surrogate any time now!
