Wonderfruit Festival Isn’t Just About Music, It’s About Wellness

I remember walking through the entrance, under the Wonderfruit sign and the sounds of music getting louder and louder. People dressed in colorful outfits walked past and I started to see the huge stage productions. As I passed by the information booth I could hear the mix of sounds: music, laughter, kids playing. Ah, the noise that makes festivals feel familiar, no matter which one you go to.

This was my first time to go to Wonderfruit and I was beyond excited. For the months leading up to this, I would check updates and read up on artists performing and talks that were going to be held. It isn’t, however, just a music festival, it’s more about wellness. Surprised? There are six different pillars: Music, Arts, Farm to Feasts, Wellness & Adventures, Talks & Workshops, and Family.

Arts was covered by different installations while delicious food being served falls under Farm to Feasts. Wellness & Adventure activities included yoga classes, wakeboarding, and massages you could get on the grounds. There were also talks on sustainability and workshops that taught people how to make their own dreamcatchers. Family played a big role in this festival as kids were also able to experience Wonderfruit.

My favorite part was the music. Being able to see DJs, bands, and singers from all over the world perform is always such a treat. One of my favorite acts was local duo the Hernandez Brothers. I have seen them on stage Manila but the energy at Wonderfruit was completely different.

Their set started at 7:00 pm on Saturday and we were ready, front and center. The stage where they performed was like a huge playground for adults. We could climb it and there were even trampolines on the higher levels. As they started to play, the crowd started to grow. More and more people joined in, dancing and cheering them on. The energy was so palpable I had to capture it on camera. I ended up taking 360 photos and videos with the Insta360 ONE camera and it feels like you’re in the middle of everything.

Taking five days off from the real world and fully immersing myself in the festival was something I really needed to end the year right. It just ended but I already can’t wait for next year’s Wonderfruit experience.
