If you need further proof that Birkenstocks are coming back, here it is. Designer Rick Owens recently collaborated with the brand to create new pairs, including one with a pony hair finish.
The new Birks are made with Rick’s monochromatic style. In GQ‘s words, they’re the Gothic version of the footwear staple.
The collection will feature four pairs made with full-grain, leather, felt, and pony hair. The last one seems to be the most noticeable out of the four materials. It’s all-black and the straps are made more unique with the hairs.
Aside from sandals, Birkenstock also worked with Rick to design their pop-up store, Birkenstock Box. According to Dezeen, this is the first time the brand has worked with an individual designer for the project. “We are beyond fashion but we’re relevant to it as an iconic classic, a genuinely universal wardrobe staple,” chief executive Oliver Reichert told Business of Fashion. “The versatile mobile structure is like a blank canvas and all our partners make this a meaningful venture.”
The Rick Owens x Birkenstock collection will be available for pre-order on March 1 and for purchase via Rick Owens and Birkenstock’s stores on March 15.
