‘Game of Thrones’ S8E1 rundown: How will it shape the entire show?

SPOILERS AHEAD

Oh boy, Game of Thrones season 8 is off to an exciting start. We just watched the first episode at a live viewing party and the viewer reactions around us were so priceless. Rightfully so because we already got surprises and revelations from Winterfell down to King’s Landing.

Like in previous seasons, episode 1 gives a glimpse of how the rest of the series will go. So, as early as now, we’re going to make some guesses on the characters’ futures based on what happened.

Sansa Stark and Daenerys Targaryen’s tension

What happened: Sansa wasn’t too happy when Daenerys’ party arrived to Winterfell. The Lady of the North welcomed them, but later questioned how she’ll feed thousands of soldiers and two grown dragons during the war.

Our guess: Netizens were right. We feel like Sansa is going to resent Daenerys’ presence as the series progresses. Daenerys has acknowledged Sansa’s dislike of her and made sort of a threat if she doesn’t get the respect she thinks she deserves as queen.

Arya Stark defending her sister

What happened: During Arya’s reunion with her brother, Jon Snow, the latter defended Daenerys. He said their sister, Sansa, only dislikes her because “she thinks she’s smarter than everyone.” Arya’s response surprised Jon and every GOT fan in the room: “She’s the smartest person I know.”

Our guess: If you’ve been watching GOT long enough, you’ll know that Arya and Sansa never saw eye to eye. You know, normal sister stuff. So this development is important because if Arya could kill Little Finger to avenge Sansa, then she can do the same to anyone, including Daenerys, who puts her sister in danger.

Cersei Lannister’s alliance with Euron Greyjoy

What happened: In season 7, Euron of the Iron Islands made a proposal to Cersei to be the next ruler of King’s Landing. All he needed to do was recruit 20,000 of his men for the Lannister army. Euron kept his promise and was allowed to sleep with Cersei—even though it was probably the most awkward and displeasing experience for the queen.

Our guess: If what Cersei said in S7 is true, then she’s still pregnant and her twin brother, Jaime Lannister, is the dad. Euron said he wants to “put a prince in your belly,” but he’ll probably flip once the baby comes out blonde. Just sayin’.

The dragons “judging” their mom

What happened: This is just a funny little scene, but we think it’s still worth noting. When Jon and Daenerys shared a kiss, the Viserion and Rhaegal looked at their “parents.” We don’t know if it’s overprotection or they’re just really judgmental reptiles.

Our guess: It’s clearly a hint that the dragons know Jon is half-Targaryen. So either they side with him in the great battle, or they turn against him to protect Daenerys. After all, the stares didn’t look friendly at all.

Jon Snow finding out the truth

What happened: Speaking of being a half-Targaryen, Jon finally found out his true identity, which is Aegon Targaryen, the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. Hence, making the heir of the Iron Throne under “Mad King” Aerys Targaryen’s lineage. He obviously couldn’t believe it and insisted that Daenerys is the rightful queen (she’s not).

Our guess: This is going to cause some serious relationship problems, and possibly a rift among the people of Winterfell and other northern cities. Unless, of course, Jon still prefers to bend the knee to Daenerys and just ignore the fact he’s in a relationship with his aunt.

Jaime Lannister and Bran Stark’s awkward reunion

What happened: Jaime is the main reason Bran is a cripple. In GOT‘s pilot episode, Bran climbed a tower and accidentally discovered the Lannisters’ incestuous relationship. Jaime then pushed him out the window with the intention to kill him and keep him quiet forever. But nope, he survived and is now a cripple. The last scene of S8E1 shows Jaime arriving to Winterfell and the first person he locked eyes with was Bran, who’s staring at him from his wheelchair.

Our guess: We already know this reunion is going to be hella awkward. But we don’t think Bran will exact revenge of Jaime for what he did. In fact, he might even save him from possible execution. In the teaser for episode 2, Daenerys is heard talking about Jaime killing her father. The Mother of Dragon is not someone who easily shows pity, so she’ll most likely put his head on the chopping block. But since Bran can see the future and the White Walkers’ next move to annihilate mankind, he might see Jaime as an important asset to the war.
