After almost 10 years on TV, Game of Thrones officially came to an end today. Although season 8 wasn’t received well by fans, the show’s legacy will undoubtedly live on.
Before the episode premiered, the GOT cast already posted their good-byes to the show, their respective characters, and their castmates. “Game of Thrones has shaped me as a woman, as an actor and as a human being. I just wish my darling dad was here now to see how far we’ve flown,” Emilia Clarke wrote on Instagram.
She also thanked the fans who supported her as Daenerys Targaryen and how much the character meant to her in the last decade of shooting the show. “The mother of dragons chapter has taken up the whole of my adult life. This woman has taken up the whole of my heart. I’ve sweated in the blaze of dragon fire, shed many tears at those who left our family early, and wrung my brain dry trying to do Khaleesi and the masterful words, actions (and names) I was given, justice.”
Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, said her character taught her “resilience, bravery, and what true strength really is” and “to be kind and patient and to lead with love.” She also talked about growing up playing the character as she started working on GOT at 13. “To the show and the incredible people who make it, thank you for giving me the best life and drama lessons I could have ever asked for. Without you I wouldn’t be the person I am today.”
Jacob Anderson (also goes by his singer name, Raleigh Ritchie) posted a photo from his first and last shoot days as Grey Worm. “You went from a robot to a real boy. I’m proud of you. I’ll miss you, bud,” he wrote. “Thank you to everybody that cared about him and rooted for him. He was really scared at first, but you made him feel loved. He appreciates it. I asked him.”
On a lighter note, Gwendoline Christie shared a photo of her and Kit Harington making shocked faces. The caption read: “BEING TOLD THE ENDING TO @gameofthrones.”
It was a wild ride, Game of Thrones. Thank you. Now we’re all going to wait for the spin-offs and the rest of George R. R. Martin’s books.
