Musician and record producer James Blake clarified his girlfriend, Jamella Jamil’s role in creating his new album. James quote-tweeted a Billboard article that says Jamella “inspired” him to do the album. “Not just inspired it–she actually worked on it. I even said it in the interview, but people focus on ‘inspired’ because the idea of the ‘muse’ is so romantic and pervasive,” James said.

Jameela Jamil is best known for her role as Tahani in “The Good Place.” But other than that, she is an activist and a feminist. James made it clear to everyone that she was a huge help in the creation of his new album, “Assume Form.”

“Women who help their partners with their album, being a sounding board and often their only emotional support during the process, almost invariably go uncredited, while majority male producers come in and make a tiny change to a track and they’re Mr. golden balls,” James continued.

He also expressed that people would rather use the word “inspired” because “muse” sounds too “romantic and pervasive.” He ended his Twitter statement by giving a shout-out to all partners who “selflessly placated a musician during a very self absorbed process like creating an album.” Jamella then tweeted, saying “I love this man a lot. He’s a proper feminist.”

Shout out to all the partners who selflessly placated a musician during a very self absorbed process like creating an album, who got the title ‘muse’ afterwards which basically amounts to being an object of affection while the musician exercises their ‘genius’.
