LFW runways are making harnesses relevant again

By Jacqueline Ariason February 21, 2020

When we saw Timothée Chalamet and Michael B. Jordan wearing harnesses with their suits on the red carpet last year, we thought the trend wouldn’t pick up as much. Fast forward to today, designer labels at London Fashion Week (LFW) have made the accessory popular once again.

There were the usual leather buckled leather harnesses which were paired with Gucci ball gowns, while Christopher Kane combined jelly plastic with rhinestones. Vera Wang also added a bit of edge to her bright floral gowns with a leather harness across the chest.

While harnesses aren’t exactly new, it’s safe to say that they’re making a comeback thanks to LFW’s runways. If you’ve always wanted to try this trend, shop our picks below.

Bershka Belt with Harness

This accessory is pretty simple: It’s a belt with harness straps attached to it. If you’re still intimidated by wearing a complicated harness, you can go for this first. Available at Glorietta 2.

Comme Des Garçons Metal Embellished Harness

This Comme Des Garçons piece is made with rubber and gold-tone metal embellishments. It has a hook and eye fastening so it’s easy to wear and take off. You can wear this over any top or, if you’re daring, a bralette. Available on Farfetch.

Club Exx Butterfly Dance Vinyl Leg Harness

Another form of harness accessories are the ones you wear on your hips and thighs. This one from Club Exx is made from clear vinyl and has silver rings and studs on it. It has adjustable buckle straps at the back to make it comfortable for the wearer. Available Dolls Kill.
