Here’s what the cast of the new ‘Gossip Girl’ looks like

Hey, upper east-siders! Check out the cast of the new “Gossip Girl” series at the steps of the Met.

We are saying YES to the Gossip Girl reboot, YES to the king Eric Daman being back at it on the Upper East Side, YES TO LIFE!!!! pic.twitter.com/JXs2ctNOG5

Paparazzi photos reveal the new faces in the iconic CW teenage drama during a shoot for the reboot of the series. Clad in what looks like a personalized (and stylized) twist to their classic high school uniforms, actors Evan Mock, Eli Brown, Zión Moreno, Jordan Alexander, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Savannah Smith, Thomas Doherty, and Whitney Peak were spotted by fans of the critically acclaimed TV drama on the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art—the iconic spot among Manhattan’s elite.

The series that was once dominated by Constance’s queens Serena Van der Woodsen (played by Blake Lively) and Blair Waldorf (played by Leighton Meester) has been taken over by fresh faces who will bring the original storyline further. The executive producer of the original series (who’s also the screenwriter of the revamped one) Joshua Safran clarified that the show will not be a reboot, but an extension, taking place eight years after lonely boy was revealed to be the mystery online persona. We don’t know whether the likes of Lively or Meester will be dropping in on a few scenes of the show, but of course, Kristen Bell a.k.a. the voice of gossip girl was confirmed to be making a comeback.

“Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years,” reads a logline acquired by Harper’s Bazaar.

Earlier this year, Safran admitted to Vulture that he noticed a lack of representation in the original series and that he plans to cast non-White leads and add more queer content this time. “It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now, where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that,” he said.

At first, we were skeptical with the initial casting announcement since it did include a lot of White leads, save for the casting of Moreno (a Venezuelan trans woman). But following the casting of Alexander, a queer musician and actor who is of mixed race, and newcomers Smith and Mock, the show might be bringing in just what we’re looking for.

We still have to know what this show’s character lineup is going to be like. Will there be a new narcissistic player who will dethrone the toxic Chuck Bass? Or another Georgina Sparks who’ll get on our nerves after every season? The show’s filming began on Nov. 2 and it is set to air on HBO Max in 2021. XOXO.
