There’s been a lot of talk about how Itzy has been bagging awards left and right despite being a rookie group. Unknown to all, especially those who are second and third gen loyalists, fourth generation idols have been dominating the charts as well.
If you’ve ever heard about groups Stray Kidz, Treasure, and G(i)dle, they’re just a few of the more known groups under the fourth generation category (well at least that’s what Koreaboo says). Aside from them, there have been groups that debuted the past two years that lack the recognition they deserve, and we’re excited to see how they’ll be changing the K-pop game. Here are a few of our faves that you should definitely check out:
Everglow
Everglow, which debuted back in 2019, is a six-member idol group that knows how to make a debut song look like a comeback. “Bon Bon Chocolat” instantly became a hit when it was released and it’s easy to see why. There was so much energy, attitude and passion into the group’s every performance of the song that it seems like its members have been longtime idols.
Purple Kiss
Since their debut was only last November, there’s no telling what its actual concept is. Unlike their sunbaes Mamamoo, I’m guessing this group is sticking to a single concept. However what drew me to its music is the fact that this girl group is actually exploring the pop rock genre, which isn’t common in K-pop.
Cravity
There’s nothing more sexy than men who can project their voices. (Special shoutout to BTS’ Jungkook.) And what could be better than a group with members who could all pass as the main vocals? None at all. Hearing Cravity’s songs instantly heals all my illnesses and helps me sleep better—an exaggeration, but you get what I mean.
Oneus
RBW Entertainment is really out here telling us its artists are f-l-e-x-i-b-l-e. Compared to their juniors Purple Kiss, Oneus can be seen as following sunbaes Mamamoo’s footsteps on having a flexible concept. But as someone who notices aesthetics first, I have to admit the vampirical concept of their “Come Back Home” music video hits close to my Twi-hard self’s heart.
TXT
It’s hard to come across a group that gives you intense performances but at the same time makes them chill. “Blue Hour” gives me those vibes, and TXT members have been very smooth with their moves. Despite being juniors to BTS, they have the potential to surpass their sunbaes. We can’t wait for it.
