Hair bows: From school girl staple to red carpet-worthy

Goodbye, hair barrettes, Hollywood has moved on to something that, incidentally, you might also recognize from your school days: Hair bows. Yup, they have not only made it to the runways. Now, we notice they’re always making an appearance on the red carpet too, confirming that this is the stars’ new favorite hair accessory. Contrary to what most might think, it doesn’t just belong to school halls. Edgy updos and the right styling can make it quite chic and sophisticated. Just look at how your favorite stars proved that they can be totally red carpet-worthy.

Half-up

Lili Reinhart was the picture of elegance at the The Art of Elysium gala. She wore a voluminous  black gown with a sheer midriff and a translucent lace section. She finished the look with her blonde hair in a half-up style, held back with a floppy black bow Betty Cooper would be proud of.

Jessica Chastain and Sienna Miller kept it chic at the Golden Globes. Jessica’s choice was a thin black ribbon for her red locks, to complement her black gown with a sheer cape. While Sienna went with a more Coco Chanel classic look and paired her black bow with a white gown and a pearl necklace.

Take notes from Emma Stone, Sadie Sink, and even the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, if you want a more effortless-chic look. The three lovely ladies kept their hair in check while staying fashionable with black ribbons.

Christina Hendricks and Mandy Moore’s fun personalities, reflected through their style, always shine on the red carpet. Christina rocked her signature bangs with a peek-a-boo bow at the Golden Globes. Meanwhile, Mandy, a lady who knows her hair accessories, rocked a velvet red one at a film screening.

Update this classic ‘do with a bow just like what Maria Menounos, and Margot Robbie did. Maria’s braided bun at the Oscars red carpet was even more eye-catching thanks to a black silk ribbon. And Margot’s hairstylist Bryce Scarlett, made sure she wowed at the Critics’ Choice Awards with a long velvet ribbon atop her bun.

Millie Bobby Brown proves time and again she is a young fashion icon. She was a breath of fresh air at the SAG Awards with her fun, pink dress with matching glittery eyeshadow, chuck taylors, and space buns. She upgraded hers with two black ribbons tied around each one.

This is probably my favorite way to style bows among the bunch. It seems it’s Emily Ratajkowski’s too. She has been spotted with a bow on messy braids a couple of times. She’s used one in plush black at the Valentino A/W ’17-18 show, and then again with a crimson ribbon that matched her dress. Another way to incorporate style it is by literally braiding the ribbon with your hair like this one Instagrammer did.
