Popular superstition says that Friday the 13th is always unlucky. According to BBC, people think the number 13 is bad because Judas, the disciple who betrayed Jesus Christ, was thought to have been the 13th guest at the Last Supper. This is similar to Norse mythology wherein Loki, the god of mischief, was the 13th guest at a dinner party he ruined.
Meanwhile, Friday is believed to be “the unluckiest” of the week because several deaths in history happened on this day. Examples include Jesus’ crucifixion on Good Friday, and Hangman’s Day in Great Britain when prisoners were hanged to death.
Because of this fear of Friday the 13th, many have avoided broken mirrors and black cats so they wouldn’t experience any mishaps for a day or the rest of their lives. Tomorrow, Sept. 13, is different and maybe more chaotic because a full moon is coinciding with the “unlucky” day.
“The Washington Post” notes this is the first Friday the 13th full moon since January 2006. It’s also known as the Harvest Moon, which has an orange tint and usually appears during Halloween season. So, spooky things are bound to happen tomorrow, right?
While we can’t really guarantee if you’ll see anything supernatural tomorrow, this event can still affect us in various ways. If you’re feeling unlucky this Friday the 13th, it’s most likely because of the full moon, not because you stepped on a crack on the sidewalk.
Here are some emotional shifts you should look out for tomorrow:
Anxiety at an all-time high
Astrologer Lisa Stardust tells Bustle that the incoming Harvest Moon will bring “a ton of frenetic energy that will make us extremely anxious.” This is especially true for people who are dealing with a lot of workload at the moment. Lisa advises that you should take a moment to unwind to clear your mind of any stressful thoughts.
Hazy thoughts
Aside from the full moon, Neptune is also in retrograde. This is a planet known for dreams and illusions, and it will be in conjunction with the moon falling under Pisces, an emotional sign. Bustle warns these two planetary aspects will make us confused about what’s real or not because of our emotions. Neptune in retrograde can also cause our fears to resurface, which would mess with our thoughts as well, so be cautious and mindful of what’s happening around and within you.
Watch out for gaslighting
Astrology blog ElsaElsa warns that gaslighting can happen during the full moon. What you can do to prevent this is to “steer away from ‘confusion’ by volunteering to be good. To help out. To sacrifice your time.” If you want an idea of which signs are most likely to gaslight you, here’s a guide.
Some body parts will feel more sensitive
Astro Seek‘s moon calendar cites that your feet and toes might feel more sensitive during the harvest moon tomorrow. Our endorphins (“happy hormones“) and melatonin (a hormone that helps us sleep) will also be affected, so expect to feel a bit down and exhausted as these mood swings might affect your productivity. Remember: Mars is in Virgo as well, meaning we should be finishing our tasks to avoid feeling frazzled by work.
Stressing over nothing
The fact that it’s Friday the 13th can be overwhelming and stressful for some. Top that with the other effects of the Harvest Moon, you might lose your focus and feel more angst while trying to finish tasks. Don’t let it get to you!
