When the Crazy Rich Asians teaser photos were released yesterday, fans freaked out at how opulent it looked. Many also started cross-checking the scenes between the book and the film. But have you ever wondered why the premiere is on Aug. 17, 2018? It may not be as coincidental as you would think.
Lainey Gossip pointed out that feng shui might be in play here. August is the eighth month of the year while “17” adds up to eight (1 + 7 = 8). In Chinese numerology, the number eight is considered the luckiest number as it sounds similar to “fa” or “fortune.”
Even the year is said to be lucky. The number 18 in Chinese is phonetically similar to the phrase “to get rich for sure.”
As you may know, Crazy Rich Asians has an all-Asian cast and director Jon M. Chu is born from a Chinese family. So using feng shui for the premiere date is possible. Who knows? They might just break box office records next year.
