Why Beauty Gurus Are Putting Lipstick Under Their Eyes

By Tisha Ramirezon January 11, 2018

It’s great when makeup products can be used for multiple things like concealer as contour. You’ll get more use out of the item and maybe even cut down the number of products you buy. One trend we’ve been seeing a lot is how beauty gurus are using red lipstick as color correctors.

What does it do? According to Today Style, “Dark circles are usually blue or green in tone. If you look at a primary color wheel, the exact opposite of those colors are oranges and reds. Applying a bright red color underneath your eyes actually neutralizes the color you’re hoping to cover.”

According to one YouTuber, using the liquid lipstick gave more coverage compared with regular color correctors.

For those looking for a new way to conceal dark circles, here are the products you need to complete the look.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in Cheerleader

lipstick

Start off by applying red lipstick under your eyes. You can use a tube lipstick but in most of the videos, they use liquid lipsticks like this one from Huda Beauty. It has a matte finish but won’t leave your skin feeling too dry. Once you’ve applied this to your face, blend it out with a sponge. Available online.

Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Concealer

concealer

After blending the red liquid lipstick, apply concealer over it. Use your go-to or pick up this one from Becca. It has a light to medium coverage, lightweight consistency, and buildable formula. It also comes in nine shades from porcelain to deep bronze. Available on Sephora PH.

Real Techniques Dual-Ended Expert Sponge

For tools, a makeup sponge is key. Use this to blend the lipstick and concealer. You can also use this to apply the powder under your eyes. Available on Calyxta.

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

powder

Set the makeup under your eyes by baking it with loose setting powder. Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder seems to be every beauty guru’s favorite. It has a matte finish and blends into the skin easily. Available at Glorietta 4.

Sigma F10 Powder/Blush Brush

brush

Once the setting powder is done baking, sweep it off your face with a powder brush. This one from Sigma has soft and fluffy bristles that won’t feel scratchy on the skin. Available at Beauty Bar, Central Square.
