Puffy Under Eyes Don’t Just Happen Because You Lack Sleep

By Jacqueline Ariason January 15, 2018

Do you ever wake up and wonder why your under eyes look swollen? You may blame sad movies like Call Me By Your Name, but nope, it’s because of aging in general. Mayo Clinic explains that puffy under eyes are a natural occurrence as one gets older. This is usually caused by lack of sleep, fluid retention due to weather changes, allergies or dermatitis, and heredity.

Aside from getting ample sleep, there are products to help you reduce the puffiness. Some will even help lighten the dark under eye circles you’ve always struggled with.

Pixi 24K Eye Elixir

This handy product lets you apply serum on your under eye area with just a few swipes. The roller-ball applicator provides collagen and peptides that repair the delicate skin around the eyes. It also soothes the under eye and improves circulation to lessen the puffiness. Available at Landmark, TriNoma Mall.

Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream

If you want to look more awake before putting makeup on, opt for Clinique’s Pep-Start Eye Cream. It hydrates the under eyes, giving you a fresh look all day. You can also throw this in your purse as it comes in a travel-friendly size. Available at SM Makati.

Estée Lauder Re-Nutriv Ultimate Diamond Transformative Eye Cream

For a luxe home treatment, try this Estée Lauder eye cream. It’s made with rare black diamond truffle extract, which makes your eye area brighter and firmer. It also lightens dark circles and reduces puffiness. To incorporate the product properly, it’s recommended to use the cooling faceted massage wand that comes with the eye cream. Available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source.

Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Eye De-Puffer

Formulated with vitamin C extract and caffeine, this de-puffer helps improve the appearance of aging skin and makes your eyes look more awake. All you need to do is glide the product around the eye area and let it do the work. Available at Greenbelt 5.

Luke Products Hydrogel Eye Patch

Each patch is formulated with cucumber extract which keeps the under eye area refreshed and moisturized. Aside from reducing puffiness, it also tightens the skin to prevent sagging. Best to use these patches in the morning when you wake up. Available on Beauty MNL.

Vesté Jade Roller

Ever wondered how some celebrities and models fight puffy under eyes? They use jade rollers. Well + Good revealed that Lea Michele swears by the tool, and E! Online also named models Miranda Kerr and Behati Prinsloo as fans of the handy de-puffer. It’s said that a cold jade stone “revs up circulation, de-puffs the eye area, and improves skin elasticity.” So if the creams and serums don’t work, you can try using a jade roller. Available via Vesté Jade Roller’s Instagram account.
