Did You Catch These Easter Eggs in the Trailer of ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’?

The first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story came out yesterday. Naturally, Star Wars fans were hyped for the prequel film and started dissecting the two-minute long trailer. You’d think that’s too short to find anything meaningful, but it’s not impossible. Just look at how much information they got from The Last Jedi’s trailer last year.

In case you didn’t catch the Easter eggs, we’ve rounded them up for you. Hopefully this’ll make you more excited before the film premieres this May.

Chewbacca’s backstory

We all know that the movie is about Han Solo, but people are also excited to see more of Chewbacca’s possible origins. One of the most-talked-about moments in the trailer was that it might’ve shown Chewie’s wife. You’ll see Chewie touching foreheads with another Wookiee as a sign of affection.

You may be thinking, “Wait, he has a wife?” Yes, and a son named Lumpy. IGN said that Chewie’s family made an appearance in the 1978 TV movie Star Wars Holiday Special. Although George Lucas practically put the movie in the back burner after it showed, Chewie’s family is still canon as Malla appeared in the 2015 children’s book A New Hope: The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy. While Lumpy is a character in The Aftermath: Trilogy novels.

How Han won the Millennium Falcon

As the story goes, Han got the Millennium Falcon by winning a card game against Lando Carlissian (played by Donald Glover). The trailer gave a quick peek to a gambling scene, as well as Lando driving the Millennium Falcon with Han in the backseat. It’s going to be fun to see how that card game went down.

And how Han got his blaster

Han is also known for having a blaster gun as his weapon of choice. It was shown in the trailer that Tobias gave him the gun while they were convening around a campfire.

A foreshadowing to Empire Strikes Back

In one scene in the trailer, Tobias Beckett (played by Woody Harrelson) told Han, “Let me give you some advice: Assume everyone will betray you and you’ll never be disappointed.” Time noted that this may be alluding to one of Star Wars’ biggest twists which happened in Empire Strikes Back.

If you remember, Lando betrayed Han by telling Darth Vader that they’re seeking refuge in Cloud City. Guess Han should’ve listened to Tobias. Or maybe listened to Lando since he also said, “Everything you’ve heard about me is true.”

Chewbacca’s age

Is it safe to assume that Wookiee’s live forever? Because Chewie (as translated by Han) revealed that he’s 190 years old in the Solo timeline. If you do the math, he’s probably over 200 years old in the recent trilogy.

Tweaking Han’s favorite catchphrase

Han didn’t always say, “I have a really bad feeling about this.” In the trailer, he said he had a “really good feeling” while he was driving a ship into battle. Makes you wonder what happened in the next few years for him to lose that optimism.

Qi’ra and Princess Leia comparison

Qi’ra (played by Emilia Clarke) seems to be a close friend of Han’s. According to Wookieepedia, the two grew up on the streets together, hence the line, “I might be the only one who knows what you really are.” The trailer showed that this is the first time they’ve seen each other in a while. It’s also possible that Qi’ra might be Han’s love interest in Solo. Screen Rant pointed out that Han may have seen a bit of Qi’ra in Leia, which may be why he fell for the princess in the first trilogy.
